Sheldon Farrington — a passionate follower of Christ, presently serving as the Director of Commuter Life for the Liberty University Office of Student Life and as Senior City Groups Coach at Hill City Community Church, in Lynchburg, VA.
Outside of work, I like to dance with grandmas and middle aged moms at weddings. I like to explore the genius of old, dead guys through the books they leave behind. But, I have a weakness for the aesthetic draw of a modern book cover alongside the promise of insights about Jesus, culture, friendship, leadership, sexuality, HigherEd, or any combinations of those you can imagine. That means some of my favorite books include Just Mercy, Redeeming Sex, Eschatological Discipleship, Heal Us, Emmanuel, and Restoring the Soul of the University. You can find me in the middle of too many books at any given time.
Beyond books, chasing the likes of Jason Bourne or Evelyn Salt through the fast paced scenes of a good crime-thriller, is my type of movie night — along with a good documentary or drama in the company of others. I’m the kind of guy that waits quietly while the credits roll and the theater empties to discuss the worldview of the movie, the virtues on display, the vices celebrated or normalized, and what the film conveys about the human experience.
Yet, more than anything, Exhausting time and getting to know people is how I enjoy spending my time. Over the last twenty-eight years of life, I’ve grown quite enthralled with discovering the beauty between stretches of silence and the stories that shape others. I have adopted the philosophy that nothing I have is from me or for me, but from God and for other people. Life is a gift, and I don’t know of a better way to live it than available to others for the glory of Christ.
